Review of Samaná whale watching: humpbacks, boat comfort, timing, snacks, guides, price, practical tips, and who should book.

“The whale watching itself was great, we saw quite a few. But this excursion was advertised as 3.25 hours. We didn’t leave the marina until 10:00 am and were back by 12:30 pm. We could have spent more time watching the whales instead of rushing to drop guests off at Bacardi Island.”

“The boat crew and whale watch was fun- although short - once we’d seen a few whales! The guide basically said. That’s good enough . The horse back ride was awful - the hoses are in terrible shape and maltreated - yelled at and hit Read more”

Review of Punta Cana's 12-hour whale-watching trip to Samaná, Cayo Levantado, and El Limón, with honest advice on comfort, timing, and value.

“Overall an okay trip. It did everything as described but with no finesse or comfort. It was a really long day, picked up at 6.30 and not back until nearly 9.00pm. The guide was very adept at getting a large number of tourists from one place to the next, on and off coaches etc, but did little else. It would have been nice to have been given some information about the whales, the area, culture…anything really!! The time on Bacardi island was really short (1 hour), then we spent a really long time after the waterfall waiting to get the safari truck to go back to the boat back. It…”

Review of Samaná’s waterfall, whale watching, horseback ride, Dominican lunch, and Bacardi Island trip from Punta Cana.

“Definitely a to-do adventure! Be prepared for a long day...12 hours! Wear sneakers!!! Not flip flops. Bring lots of cash to tip and purchase items, beer etc... got totally soaked on boat both coming and going... so prepare for anything. Go with a great attitude and you will be rewarded. El Limon has 3 falls... go further past all the tourists to the very bottom falls!”

See whales from Samaná, enjoy a Dominican lunch at Cayo Levantado, and compare the boat time, crowds, price, and practical details.

“The whale watching tour was well-organized and the boat was fine but I found two parts to be disappointing. The first is that the date scheduled was before most of the whales arrive. There can be up to 300 whales in the bay but at this point there were only three. Does it make sense to schedule a tour when there are so few whales? Second, the majority of the time is spent on Cayo Levantado, which has a nice enough beach but is much less interesting than seeing whales. Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic. Regardless, the guides were professional, friendly, and helpful.”
